My wife, Summer, and I chose Homewood to be our home and where we wanted to raise our family. Homewood is special, and we need to preserve it. I will bring a new energy and new ideas to the City Council. As a small businessman, I know the importance of financial planning and living within one's means.
Keith is a 12-year resident of Homewood and currently resides in the Mayfair area of Ward 3. He graduated with a B.S. in political science and history from Jacksonville State University. Keith is a small business owner, the father of a high-spirited 3-year-old, and the husband of Summer Young, who is a Speech Language Pathologist for the Jefferson County School System.

Homewood residents deserve a city government they can trust — one that manages public funds with integrity, transparency, and care. After serious financial mismanagement — including unmonitored city credit card use and the embezzlement of close to a million dollars by a former CFO — the city has taken steps to strengthen its financial controls. Those improvements are important, but the work isn’t finished.
As your City Council representative, I’ll build on that progress by pushing for even stronger oversight, independent audits, and full transparency around city spending. I’ll advocate for clear, enforceable policies that prevent abuse — and for a culture at City Hall in which ethical stewardship of taxpayer dollars is the standard, not the exception.
Fiscal responsibility isn’t just about balancing a budget — it’s about ensuring every dollar serves the public good. Together, we can protect the progress that’s been made, close the remaining gaps, and make sure Homewood’s future is built on trust, accountability, and sound financial leadership.
Homewood’s strength lies in its unique character, thriving small businesses, and engaged neighborhoods. As we look to the future, economic development must be intentional — not just about growth, but about the right kind of growth. That means supporting local businesses, encouraging entrepreneurship, and making sure development enhances our community, not overwhelms it.
I’ve heard the concerns from residents and small business owners about large-scale expansions that threaten to change the feel and fabric of our city. We need to be vigilant and thoughtful, making sure that any new development respects our neighborhoods, protects our small business ecosystem, and fits within a shared vision for Homewood’s future — not just the plans of the biggest players at the table.
On City Council, I’ll advocate for economic policies that reflect our values: sustainable, community-driven growth, transparent decision-making, and development that keeps Homewood a place we’re proud to call home.
Homewood is a safe and vibrant city, and keeping it that way means listening closely to the concerns of our neighbors. While we’re fortunate to have low overall crime, residents have raised valid concerns about speeding and heavy cut through traffic on our neighborhood streets — often where families walk, children play, and runners share the road.
Unfortunately, past traffic calming measures haven’t always hit the mark, leaving many residents frustrated. As your City Council representative, I’ll take a more thoughtful, data driven approach — one that balances safety with common sense and community input. That means exploring targeted solutions that work for each neighborhood, not one-size-fits-all fixes. I’ll also support continued investment in public safety, ensuring our first responders have the tools and support they need to keep our community secure.
Safety isn’t just about statistics — it’s about how we feel in our own neighborhoods. Together, we can make Homewood safer, more walkable, and more responsive to the people who call it home.
Homewood is known for its excellent public schools — a point of pride for our community and a key reason so many families choose to live here. Our schools consistently rank among the best in the state, thanks to dedicated educators, engaged families, and strong community support. But as our student population continues to grow, so do the challenges — especially when it comes to long-term funding and maintaining the high standards our families expect.
As your City Council representative, I’ll work to strengthen the partnership between the city and the school system to ensure we’re planning ahead for future needs. That includes being proactive about growth, protecting school funding, and making smart decisions about development that consider the impact on enrollment and classroom resources.
Supporting our schools means more than celebrating their success — it means making sure they have what they need to thrive in the years to come. Together, we can help keep Homewood’s schools strong, well-resourced, and a model for public education in Alabama.
Homewood’s natural environment — from its neighborhood streams to its tree lined streets — is a defining part of our city’s identity and quality of life. But it’s under pressure. Local waterways have been impacted multiple times in recent years by pollution spills from nearby industrial activity, and trash continues to wash into our storm drains, threatening both public health and our local ecosystem.
As your City Council representative, I’ll advocate for stronger oversight of businesses that pose environmental risks and push for real accountability when spills occur. I’ll also support practical steps to keep our streets and stormwater systems clean — including improved litter management, smarter infrastructure, and expanded community cleanup efforts. Long-term, we must also invest in sustainable practices that protect our tree canopy, reduce runoff, and preserve green space across the city.
Protecting Homewood’s environment is about more than beauty — it’s about health, safety, and responsibility. Let’s work together to safeguard the natural spaces that make our city so special.
Homewood is fortunate to have an outstanding network of parks and recreational facilities that bring families, neighbors, and visitors together. From youth sports to playgrounds and walking trails, these shared spaces are a vital part of our city’s quality of life. But not every park is receiving the same level of attention.
Overton Park, located in our district, has long been overlooked when it comes to basic maintenance and meaningful improvements. Routine issues — like overgrown grass, poor
drainage that affects walkability and safety, and limited ADA accessibility — continue to impact how fully residents can enjoy this neighborhood space.
As your City Council representative, I’ll advocate for equitable investment in all of Homewood’s parks — not just the most visible ones. That means addressing long-standing maintenance problems, improving accessibility, and ensuring our public spaces are safe, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone.
Our parks reflect our commitment to community. Let’s make sure every neighborhood — including ours — has recreational spaces we can be proud of.
At the heart of every good decision in local government is trust — trust that our elected officials are acting with integrity, listening to the community, and making choices that put people first. Homewood deserves leaders who are not only accessible and committed to transparency , but who are also serious about accountability, equity, and protecting what makes our city special.
Honest and ethical representation means taking fiscal responsibility seriously — especially in the wake of past mismanagement. It means making sure every dollar is spent wisely, every voice is heard, and every neighborhood gets the attention it deserves.
It means investing in smart, community-centered growth that protects our local character. It means standing up for environmental protections when our streams and public spaces are at risk. It means improving traffic safety in ways that are practical and effective, not just reactive. And it means ensuring our schools and parks are supported in ways that reflect the pride we have in them — with long-term thinking, not short-term fixes.
As your City Council representative, I won’t just show up — I’ll speak up. I’ll listen, ask hard questions, and put community needs ahead of personal agendas or politics. That’s what ethical leadership looks like — and that’s what I’m committed to delivering.
